The next phase of construction of the National Broadband Network (NBN) is underway, with multiple construction partners contracted to overbuild fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) services with fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) in a complex, $3b Node to Premises (N2P) Evolution project.
Contracting will be executed in stages, with delivery partners responsible for directing rollouts across large geographic regions based on customer orders.
Rollout data must be readily available to NBN Co and other N2P Evolution partners – something that is cumbersome and inefficient to manage using manual processes. Instead, construction partners need to use digital construction tools to manage a single shared data repository that helps them meet productivity, financial, and delivery milestones.
Because of this rollout approach, rollouts will be heavily data-driven: managing a single rollout territory of around 200k homes or businesses will typically produce around 1.5m office transactions and 750k field transactions. Managing that information will require a platform capable of managing over 2.25m transactions for a project region – including task data, photos, and geospatial data – and continuously monitoring and adapting the construction to changing requirements.
To ensure they can manage this information and complete the rollout as efficiently as possible, NBN Co, NBN delivery partners, and construction contractors must consider innovative digital construction tools, storing project data in a single shared repository that will enable productivity, financial, and delivery milestones.
Render Networks’ geospatial network construction platform provides a complete suite of integrated capabilities spanning field scoping, geospatial construction management, and digital completion packs.
By replacing manual and duplicated data processes, the platform provides real-time visibility that has already helped fibre network construction partners around the world to improve schedule and cost efficiencies by up to 50% compared with traditional approaches.
The N2P Evolution project will run over several years, with initial contracts outlining work terms of 2.5 years but extensions possible based on work performance and efficiency.
For construction partners eager to participate, having a robust digital construction management platform will be crucial – and Render fits the bill with an innovative platform that is already delivering real benefits in the field.
